A big event worth blogging about

Ok, last weekend I went to the Kentucky derby. I don't even know what to say after that. Was it awesome? Yes. Did i have an amazing time? Yes. Did I get so excited after hearing the news that I had to change my pants? No, but almost...(I was watching TV at the time so I wasnt as focused on the news). I dont think I have ever seen a better looking group of girls in my entire life. Whoever keeps coming to the midwest and spreading tales about all of the beautiful girls down in the south is exactly right, I might've seen three bad looking girls the entire day, if you dont count the old folks. If only I could've made it out to the bars that night...

The tradition down there is to have a mint julep, a mixed drink with whiskey and a mix of some mint flavored beverage. I wouldn't quite say it tastes like like christmas morning.. it tastes more like columbus day, but they were definetely strong and the glass they served them in was yours to keep, so I was down for a few drinks. *as a side note, there were only a handful of people who were actually drunk at the race... one was passed out on a toilet.

i think the lesson learned from the trip.. besides that all southern girls are sexy, is that I should never bet on a horse race ever again. In the five times that I've bet on a horse, going back to dusty, bryce and my wager on the belmont stakes earlier in the year, I have made exactly $0. The race before the big one, I think it was run on the turf track on the infield, I bet across the board on a horse ($60 worth) only to watch it struggle across the finish line well behind the leader. My 12-year-old sister bet twice on Super Saver, the horse that one it all.. maybe I'll bet on dogs.

One of the coolest parts of the entire day though was seeing some of the famous people there. I actually shook hands, and stood eye to eye, with shane battier (bryce, moose, eat your hearts out). He was a gentle type, and oddly reminded me of coach Loos..maybe it was the bald head. I dont want to sound like a sap but I couldnt have met a nicer guy.

Btw a big part of the kentucky derby is the hats, and I have to give kudos to my parent's friend TJ for giving me an extra hat of his. Nothing says southern like a fedora and glass of whiskey.
